WELCOME

Welcome to Clontuskert.com - the home of the Clontuskert Heritage Group.

Clontuskert is one of the oldest parishes in the diocese of Clonfert, steeped in history and cultural heritage.

Formed in March 2005, the Clontuskert Heritage Group began work on the preparation and publication of a book on the heritage of Clontuskert parish. The work culminated in the launch of The Parish of Clontuskert – Glimpses into its Past in September 2009.

Earlier this year, the Clontuskert Heritage Group completed the first stage of its Headstone Recording Project, the cemetery at St. Augustine's Church. Research on St. Matthew's cemetery and Clontuskert Abbey is nearing completion. This work was done in conjunction with Galway County Council. The results for St. Augustine's cemetery are now available at www.galway.ie/en/Services/Heritage/Archaeology/Graveyards/GraveyardSearch/ClontuskertRC/.
