The first iteration of the Clontuskert Heritage Group was founded in the early days of 2005 with the aim of writing a history of Clontuskert parish. The eighteen group members, drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, worked for five years, researching, writing and editing, until the The Parish of Clontuskert - Glimpses into its Past, was launched in the autumn of 2009. The group hoped to raise an awareness of Clontuskert's rich cultural heritage and to facilitate parishioners in researching the history of their own families.
The book tells the story of the rural East Galway parish of Clontuskert through a series of glimpses into its past. It begins with the earliest evidence of human activity in the parish during the Mesolithic period, over seven thousand years ago, and continues into the latter half of the twentieth century.
The group was then involved in research and contact work with the Ireland Reaching Out project, I.R.O.
